A plan for our city
Manchester Climate Ready: The Plan sets out how we’ll work together to tackle both the causes of climate change (mitigation) and the impacts we are already facing (adaptation).
It’s a plan for the whole city. Co-created by residents, businesses, universities and community groups, it brings together our shared ambitions and the practical steps to achieve them.
Our vision
Our vision for Manchester is a city where climate action improves lives, drives prosperity and restores nature.
By becoming zero carbon and climate resilient we'll create green jobs, attract investment and build skills for the future. People will enjoy warm homes, clean air and thriving neighbourhoods, supported by affordable public transport and safe routes for walking and cycling.
Our buildings will be energy efficient, our infrastructure protected from extreme weather. Energy will be clean, affordable and locally owned where possible.
Green spaces will be woven through every neighbourhood and the way we live will reflect our commitment to sustainability – greener products, less waste, smarter design.
The way we eat, shop and use resources will reflect our commitment to sustainability, with greener products, less waste and smarter design, creating a thriving green economy and helping Manchester contribute to a more sustainable future both locally and globally.
Together, drawing on the strength of our diversity, creativity and partnerships, we will build a sustainable, inclusive, and thriving city—vibrant for generations to come.
MCR: The Plan (2025-30) Adaptation evidence base and detailed actions accompanies Manchester Climate Ready: The Plan and sets out the detail on how we’ll prepare for what’s coming and protect the people, places and prosperity that make our city strong.
Developed with partners across Manchester, the evidence base is informed by the city’s most detailed climate risk assessment to date.
