Manchester Climate Change Youth Board - Member Vacancy

Are you passionate about helping Manchester becoming a leading city for action on climate change? Can you help to engage and inspire new audiences to get involved? Do you have experience in implementing positive change? If the answer is yes, then now is your chance to grab a seat around the table in Manchester’s pioneering efforts to become a zero carbon, sustainable, livable city.

The Manchester Climate Change Youth Board (MCCYB) was established in November 2017 to capture the voices of young persons who live, work and study in the city. We feed back to the Manchester Climate Change Partnership, who together with The Manchester Climate Change Agency successfully secured the city’s commitment to take urgent action to become a zero carbon city by 2038, at the very latest!

In the past year, our Youth Board representatives have appointed the city's first Youth Champion for Climate Action, have created a manifesto and are now planning a launch to put young people's priorities at the heart of what Manchester is doing on climate action.

This unique Board is offering you the chance to get involved with such exciting opportunities, so come and join us on the front-line of climate action! Being part of the Climate Change Youth Board will build on the foundations that our members have created, as we look to boost our momentum and move to bigger and better projects.

MCCYB is committed to promoting equal opportunities, greater diversity and gender representation in the membership of Public Boards. Accordingly, we would welcome applications from sections of the community that are often under-represented in public life.

Board membership is not paid but certain expenses are met.

Manchester Climate Change Agency - CIC Board Vacancy

The Manchester Climate Change Partnership and Agency are responsible for overseeing and championing climate change action in the city. The Partnership was established in February 2018 and builds on the work of the Manchester: A Certain Future Steering Group which was in place from 2010-17.

The Partnership brings together organisations from the city’s public, private, community, faith, education and academic sectors that share the common goal to achieve the ambitious objectives and targets in the Manchester Climate Change Framework 2020-25. Partnership members will:

· Take urgent action within the scope of their own activities, and

· Work collaboratively though the Partnership to help others in the wider Manchester community and economy to take urgent action

The aim of the Partnership is to work with the Manchester Climate Change Agency, the Manchester communities, and other relevant partners to ensure that Manchester develops and successfully implements a city climate change strategy aligned with the latest science and built on the views of city stakeholders.

The Manchester Climate Change Agency is a Community Interest Company established in September 2015 and provides a small executive team to take forward the work previously of the Steering Group and now of the Partnership. A vacancy has arisen on the Board and we are seeking individuals who are committed to the climate change agenda and can bring additional business-related skills and outlook to the CIC Board.

MCCA is committed to promoting equal opportunities, greater diversity and gender representation in the membership of Public Boards. Accordingly, we would welcome applications from sections of the community under-represented on the Board including from young people, women and BAME candidates.

Board membership is not paid but certain expenses are met. The successful candidate will be expected to attend up to 6 meetings a year, with appointment initially for a fixed term of two years.

Interested candidates should submit a short CV and supporting statement detailing their background, skills, experience and added value they would bring to the CIC Board by Monday 5 July 2021 at info@manchesterclimate.com. For an informal discussion contact Dr Tom Flanagan, Interim Director, MCCA, on 07957982069.
